"Shanks" for Reading - Our Golf Notes.....

Congratulations goes to both the Men's & Women's Narrandera Golf Club Pennant Teams who have claimed the Riverina A Grade Pennant titles.

The Men started the success on 18th April when they defeated

The Women then completed the Club double when they defeated Wagga City Laidies at Corowa on

The Women have also won previous Pennant Championships in 1983, 1987 & 1992

5th April

Last Wednesday, the 31st March was Mens Comp  Stableford . The  winner was Mick Maron with 37pts on a count back from runner up Col Mahoney with 37pts . Balls went to 34pts.

The Ladies Stableford held on the Wednesday with the winner Jan McGilvray with a score of 38pts and the runner up was Sameera Bashir with 31pts.

On Easter Saturday Stableford, the winner was Ray Buchanan with 37pts and the Runner up was Bruce Russell on 36pts. Balls went to 33pts on count back.

The “Chook run” was won by Steve Jones with a 24 nett from the 24 players and the Vets winner was Lorna Metcalf with a score of 32 nett.

Easter Monday saw a good roll up of players for the Three Person Ambrose and the outcome was a family combination . Haydn Bull and his two sons were the winners of the day and father and son Steve and Shaun Gehringer with son-in-law Nick Hetherington were there runners up.   This proves golf is a very family orientated game and can be enjoyed by all ages and handicaps.

As mentioned previously Anzac Weekend will be very entertaining at the Golf Club. The event organised by Ken Trimble will have a number of professionals in attendance with most  of them locally produced, starting their professions here in Narrandera.

On the Saturday 24th April a Junior Growing the Game Clinic will be held as well as a Women’s Clinic. After a BBQ lunch Round one of  a City v Country Challenge will begin with a Shotgun start. A dinner function will be held at night and there will be  an Art demonstration by John Perkins. Sunday will continue with the Junior Growing the game clinic  and again after a BBQ lunch the City v Country Challenge Round 2 will be played. The Golf clinics will have Ron Luxton and ex Narrandera Professional golfers in attendance. Golf equipment will be provided and the cost is free of charge. Lunch will be provided for the juniors. This will be an excellent opportunity for gaining a mountain of information from all these experienced people and should be a an event worth supporting. Sponsors of the event are Golf NSW, PGA,  and Callaway and any information about entry can be obtained from Gary Shanley or Rosemary Orr.

Cost is $125.00 per person for 2 rounds of golf and Dinner Saturday night

Narrandera Golf Club   Summer Teams 2020-21
Grand Final Week

Thankyou to all who have participated in our competition this year, considering what we have had to put up with Covid19 & all, I think our competition has done very well.
Prior to the presentation, we had a chip & putt competition. To participate, a gold coin donation was required per attempt, with all funds raised going to Kurrajong Waratah. The chip competition was taken out by Jono Schofield, and the put competition was shared between Lynda McGilvray and Mark Babbs. We raised $152, thanks to all who had a go.
Thanks also go out to our sponsors for this season. Narrandera Auto Wreckers, Hutchins Bros Engineering, Hayllars Transport, Mack / Peter Dawson Insurance Services, Euralls of Narrandera, Grants Sawmilling, Café Shazaray, Moses & Sons, Rod O’Brien Gardening Services, Jasons Golf Shop, W Clarke & Sons, Narrandera Dental, the Charles Sturt Hotel, and Ragen Electrical Contractors. Without these businesses supporting us, our competition would not be as good as it is. Please support those who support us.
After an exceptional final round Narrandera Auto Wrecker took out 1st division with a final score of 337, from Gee”Gee’s 2 on 354 who were able to hold onto their 2nd position from the 2nd round, tightly followed by a fast finishing Dimpled Balls on 355.
The Bidgee Burglars did just that in 2nd division coming from an equal third to win with a score of 357, Party Central were able to hold onto the 2nd place they had after 2 rounds with a score of 361, and Happy Gilmours clinging onto 3rd place with a score of 364.
The best average nett score was taken out by Steve Gehringer from Narrandera Wreckers with an average of 29.55, closely followed by team-mate Jono Schofield on 30.364, and Gary Shanley from The Unknowns with 30.727.
Best player of the final round was Greg Lawrence from Narrandera Auto Wreckers on a count back from Graham Flynn of Bidgee Burglars both having a nett 25.
This year we saw 2,044 players play 2,183 games. We had an overall attendance of 81%.
Daylight savings starting on Sunday the 3rd of October this year, and we are likely to have a start for the 2020-21 season on Saturday 2nd October. This will be confirmed closer to the start of next season.
Thank you all for playing this season, hopefully I’ll see some of you though the cooler months playing and hope to see you all back in October for the 2021-2022 season.

See you on the greens.

The Pennants team was at home this week and their opponents were Leeton Golf Club which they defeated 5/2 even though one of the Leeton players scored a hole-in-one on the 13th Hole.
